The Meds…
So I’ve been taking some stuff for my thyroid, and it’s been working (heck, look at the graph…that’s not all just hard work, there’s some body readjustments in there). I didn’t realise how much, until I went off them.
Didn’t actually mean to…I just kept forgetting to take them. Oops. Kinda like my birthcontrol, and that’s how we ended up with our youngest! LOL!
But I forgot for three days. Only three days. WOW. By the third day I was wondering if I was ill. I was back to being cold and tired and blah. And my husband was asking me why I had the space heater going when I was wearing two sweaters. And then…I stopped…and realised…and thought, “nah, couldn’t be that.” So I got back on them. A few days later and whamo! I’m back to me. Not so tired, not cold, and happy again.
Who knew I needed them so much? And it’s not even consious…I just realize well after the fact what’s happening when I look back.
So I’m sticking with them for a while, even if it means putting off a pregnancy. I think it’s kinda necessary.
I like the way my graph looks, but it’s not all me, it’s also the meds. I’ve done diet and exercise before, but until my body was on track and healthy, it never worked. Certainly not like this!
So, here’s to finding out what’s healthy for you…and remembering to stick with it!!
Thanks for the encouragement and glad you meds are working!! Hang in there kiddo. Does this mean you have to put off getting pregnant forever or just temporarily?
Just temporarily. The stuff I’m on is supposed to prompt my thyroid into working on it’s own…hopefully soon!! After years of being off, I’ve only been on the meds for a couple months. Who knows how long it’ll take to straighten me out! LOL!
I take armour thyroid (1-1/2 grain/day). I did the same thing you did almost, except I went off for a LONG time. I had to find a new doctor. When I was on it the first time, I lost 35 pounds. Then when I got off it, I gained 20 pounds back. Now I’m back on it again and I have lost 28 pounds. Its amazing how much better you feel, isn’t it? I mean, I have worked really hard too, but I couldn’t do anything but gain weight no matter how good my diet was and how much I was exercising, when I wasn’t on it. I find it really amazing how the mind and body works.

Great job on the loss!!! Wow, almost 50 pounds!!! You are an inspiration!

I am sure the meds have something to do with that wonderful looking graph over there on the right, but YOU have also been working your booty off! Make sure you give yourself the credit as well!
Of course I am always wishing you the best!
I’ll tell you about my friend that was seriously ill until they put her on thyroid medicine. The meds helped, but they were expensive and, like you said, necessary to take every single day or she would slide back into the very sick category. She had put on a lot of weight. A lot. She was miserable. Then… someone gave her the name of a Dr. who specialized (I can’t remember what they call this profession…) in accessing the body as a whole. What natural things your body needs to help each and every ailment you have. Their aim is to get you off of the meds and allow your body to do the work. She looks MARVELOUS! She has dropped a ton of weight, she had energy, and her face is just lit up! She really looks 20 years younger to me. Before she looked depressed and tired, and she had a terrible problem with sweating to the point she was embarrassed to be out in public much. She now wears a sweater most everywhere. The downside… the Dr. gave her a list of the foods and nutrients that were friendly to her body, and then a list of those that would irritate her body. There are some strange things on there that you can only find at health food stores and such. You have to be pretty darn devoted to this new lifestyle in order for it to work. I ask her if she felt like she could do it long term and she said “Honestly… when I started, I thought there was no way I could do this long term. But, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a difference it would make! Even now if I eat something I shouldn’t I can tell… I will develope problems with IBS, or get a splitting headache… it’s worth it to me to go through the trouble of planning out everything I eat to feel this incrediable!”
So… there you have it. If the thyroid problem becomes severe to the point where the meds help, but are holding you back from having more children or such… there other options. I could get a name of the Dr. if your interested, but his practice is in Alabama… and your in Canada. I’m sure there are others in the same profession though.
Hang in there girl. You are my inspiration!
I wish I had a pill to help give me a kick in the pants, do they sell that? Like a biottle of “Get your @ss in gear”?
Good job on your weight loss, stick with those medications they are working for you! -Dee
wow, that is so amazing. isn’t it great that you were able to see what was going on. it’s so hard sometimes to pull away from our experience enough to realize it’s not normal! and yes, the meds help but you are rocking it and even just taking the meds everyday is huge!
